our alarm is in the other room so it's really hard to keep pushing the snooze button without getting up and walking around...makes it hard to oversleep....except when we really want to
it's the team's new road bikes ... they all arrived yesterday.
22 boxes lugged up the f'ing matterhorn of a driveway cuz the shipping company can't send anything less than a galactic star cruiser to deliver them (so, he'll just drop them down on Eureka ... thanks!).
... and, a couple hundred bucks later of scavenging parts, installing headsets, cutting of carbon forks from this shop and that, a couple hours of digging through the bins and storage units of home for an f'ing part for the rear brake (because SRAM's too short, baby), an eternity of saddle swappings, and ... voila, a spanky fresh Kona road bike to display in the Bella booth for Sea Otter.
I once worked in a shop (more of a sporting goods store, actually, but they had a big bike dept.) that insisted....INSISTED that 45 minutes was too long to build up a new bike out of the box. They thought we should be getting it done in 1/2 hour or less...
naw, we just received the frames. the components are an entirely different matter.
the SRAM stuff is nice, but not compatible on the rear brake stock. and the cateye bottle cages are too long for the SRAM front derailleur. And the Kona carbon steerer didn't come with a starnutty(carbon-safe, mind you) device. And you'd be surprised how few shops in Santa Cruz have integrated headsets. And SRAM gruppos don't come with cable housing, apparently. And ... this is a race bike, baby.
shit's gotta be perfect - cuz, my honey is gonna be going 40+mph downhill on this thing and i want her around for a few more decades.
