Decision maker
I love my mountain bikes so much that I haven't bought a new one in over 5 years.
But those new Konas were too much to resist.
Especially the squishy ones.
And after riding Sea Otter on the ol hardtail last night...I am thinking the new Kona FS is more the ticket. And what do you know...it just arrived in the mail today.
But now I gotta build it real quick like.
And there are all these hoopty options.
Disk or Vbrake?
Mechanical or hydraulic?
Tubeless or tubed?
Riser or flat?
Integrated or splined?
Carbon or aluminum(cranks)?
Peanut Butter or Caramel(kisses)?

ok, second.
... i need my MM goodie-fix.
Weighing in...
DISK fo sho
HYDRAULIC or nothing
TUBED cause they're fast to change your fatty tires to your supa fast skinny race tires
RISER
SPLINED
ALUM
CARAMEL
- Center pulls mounted at the chainstays
- Do they make hydraulic center pulls mounted at the chainstays?
- tubed (use the latex tubes that don't hold air)
- integrated bar/stem/bar end combo
- square taper all the way!!! you can insert pieces of aluminum can when the taper gets too worn out
- aluminum with Biopace rings
- pb fo' sho'
Since Gin was the only one who answered the kisses question correctly (caramel??puuhlease) I am going to take his advice on the build up.
Weeeeeee
That thing is SWEEETTT!!! Build and ride it - can't wait to hear the review.
what the bleep are you people all talking about?
caramel?
x gen?
stylo?
I think I'm feeling old again...
V-Brakes.
Less hassle, lighter, and they stop just fine. Set your corners up right and you don't need a whole lot of breaking.
XTR Cranks and SRAM (XO Trigger) everything else.
3rd season on that set up and the only thing of done to the drive train is a new chain. It's still flawless.
Still not completely sold on the tubeless thing. Everything weighs more, and if you puncture you still have to put a tube in anyway. Perhaps it's a good option for rocky course (AKA Downieville), but the Otter I think you want the fastest rolling option you can find.
Caramel or PB? Why choose? Have both. Mix and match.
couldnt find time to blog today because I spent my lunch hour and coffee break ordering parts.
Jaysus what a hassle.
Went for bella sponsor stuff as much as I could with the short timeline.
So If I might geek out for a moment, the verdict was:
Fox 80X (yummy)
CK headset (of course)
Avid Mechanicals (I know, I know, but I am a vbrake retrogroch taking baby steps)
SRAM XO triggers & drail (I hope these work like the old rapidfire which I love)
Easton stem, post, riser bars (sexy)
Easton XC wheels (not tubeless so I might try that Stan strip thingie - I have never ever had a flat on my tubies so Im sort of a fan)
FSA Cranks - (carbon = cool)
Just realized that I built up a shimano-less bike.
& pedals by CrankBro's.
sweet eggies.
thanks Jed.
oh yeah, the eggies
and schwalbe tires
and one tired rider....
eggies
the first thing you all have talked about on this one that i have understood at all
except the kisses of course
Don't tell Lori, but I'm in love with this bike!
