Just curious

I wonder how they handled the road closure on this stage? Its not like there are lots of cross streets on this road.

I wondered the same thing - amazing to shut down Hwy 1. Of course, that is the only way I'd ever ride that road.

Wow. They just straight up closed it. Alternate route US101. Not quite.

I've ridden that road quite a few times. Its really not that bad, I wouldnt ride it alone at the height of tourist traffic...but otherwise, Ive never had problems on it.

Its fun in the direction they went as there is usually a pretty brisk tailwind. Its hell in the other direction. There is a climb out of Big Sur thats super hard. But otherwise its a magnificent ride.

I just couldn't stand the thought of everyone enjoying the tour, so last minute I played hooky from school. Steve and I rode out to Big Sur, it was the best part of the tour. (No wind, sunny, spring, spectacular weather) The last time I was on that stretch it was on foot in 50mph headwinds. I think I was such a stud back then either that or crazzzzeee. The racers went by way too rapido for the price of my ticket, it was alot like getting all dressed up to go clubbing and getting only one 5 seconds to dance. I tried to slow the moment down some but nooo those boys rode way too fast. Nonetheless, never pass up a chance to ride Big Sur sans tourist traffic!
